OUR TEAM
From Los Angeles to Kabul to Vancouver. Our team has collaborated successfully for eight years in challenging, dynamic, and remarkable situations.
TAJANA PRKA
Born in Munich, Germany, and of Croatian descent, she began her career as a classically trained actor, honing her craft in both Shakespearean and Tennessee Williams productions.
In 2013, Prka expanded her role to co-producer and lead actor in 'Targeting,' a psychological thriller about an American veteran's struggle to reconnect with her family. This project began her successful partnership with director Tarique Qayumi. They later produced 'The Defenders,' a TV miniseries in Kabul.
Her time in Afghanistan included writing and producing "The Gift," which was recognized at the Black Maria Festival and other U.S. festivals. By 2017, Prka further broadened her expertise as the editor, designer, and lead producer for "Black Kite," which debuted at TIFF, went on to 20 festivals, and earned multiple awards at the 2018 Leo Awards.
Prka recently finished "MÂDAR," financed by TELEFILM, taking on multiple roles, including writer, editor, producer, and lead actor.
TARIQUE QAYUMI
Tarique Qayumi, born in Kabul, Afghanistan, escaped as a child refugee.
He completed an MFA in film at UCLA before directing, writing, and producing series and films in Afghanistan, including "Truth Unveiled" and "The Defenders," and seasons two and three of the Afghan "Sesame Street."
His debut feature, "Targeting," won Best Film at the 2015 Afghan Human Rights Festival.
His second feature, "Black Kite," a historical drama he wrote, directed, and edited, premiered at TIFF in 2017, won three Leo Awards, as best film best, writer, and best director. It was acquired by Amazon Studios.
He recently completed his third feature, "MÂDAR," in partnership with Telefilm. Qayumi also participates in the Warner x Academy Directing Program and mentors at the Whistler Film Festival Screenwriting Lab.
